  1. Rajiv Mehrishi is new Finance Secretary
    • Mehrishi, a 1978 batch IAS officer of Rajasthan cadre designated as Finance secretary.
    • Last month he was appointed as Economic Affairs secretary in place of Arvind Mayaram.
    • Mehrishi is the senior most secretary among the four others who head departments of expenditure, revenue, financial services and disinvestment under the finance ministry.  As per norms, the senior most secretary in the finance ministry is appointed as the finance secretary.
  2. RBI tightens norms for NBFC
    • The Reserve Bank of India raised the capital adequacy requirement and the net owned fund limit with an objective to mitigate the risk in the sector. RBI has raised the limit for NBFCs to maintain the net owned fund (NOF) requirement to four times by 2017 to Rs.2 crore.
    • RBI has also revoked temporary suspension on issuance of Certificate of Registration (CoR) to companies that want to conduct business of non-banking financial institution (NBFI).
  3. PM Modi launched ‘Jeevan Pramaan – Digital Life Certificate for Pensioners’
    • Jeevan Praman is an Aadhar based Digital Life certificate which will reduce the efforts which so many senior citizens have to go through to produce a Life Certificate every year.
    • Earlier a pensioner either personally presents himself before the Pension Disbursing Agency, or submits a Life Certificate issued by authorities specified by the Central Pension Accounting Office (CPAO).
    • “The Department of Electronics and IT has developed a software application which will enable the recording of the pensioner’s Aadhar number and biometric details from his mobile device or computer, by plugging in a biometric reading device. Key details of the pensioner, including date, time, and biometric information will be uploaded to a central database on real-time basis, ultimately enabling the Pension Disbursing Agency to access a Digital Life Certificate. This will conclusively establish that the pensioner was alive at the time of authentication,” a press release said.
  4. Home Minister Rajnath Singh adopted Beti village in the district under the Pradhan Mantri Adarsh Gram Yojna.
  5. PM Modi begins 10-day 3 nation trip
    • PM Modi reached Myanmar to begin bilateral talks and attend 12th annual ASEAN-India summit tomorrow.
    • He arrived at capital city of Myanmar Nay Pyi Taw. He met Mr. Then Sein at the Presidential Palace here shortly after his arrival at the Nay Pyi Taw international airport where he was given a guard of honour and greeted by young boys and girls in traditional costumes.
    • Apart from participating in ASEAN summit – India summit and the East Asia Summit here and at the G20 summit in Brisbane in Australia, Modi is due to have several meetings with world leaders on the sidelines of these international events.
