  1. Centre launches ‘Accessible India Campaign’ for the differently-abled
    • The government today launched the “Accessible India Campaign” (Sugamya Bharat Abhiyan) which seeks to make at least 50 percent of all government buildings in the national capital and all state capitals “fully accessible” for the disabled by July 2018.
    • It aims to enable persons with disabilities to gain universal access, equal opportunity for development, independent living and participation in all aspects of life in an inclusive society

  2. General Motors India appoints Kaher Kazem as Chief Operating Officer
    • General Motors India has appointed Kaher Kazem, its Chief Operating Officer (COO) as President and Managing Director of the company effective January 1, 2016.
    • He will succeed Arvind Saxena, who will retire from the company by the end of this month
  3. World Champs Australia win Hockey World League Finals beating Belgium 2-1
    • World champions Australia lived up to their reputation as they bested Belgium 2-1 in the final to become the champions of the Hero Hockey World League (HWL) Final at the Sardar Vallabh Bhai Patel International Stadium in Raipur
  4. Singapore knocks off Mauritius as top FDI source into India in current fiscal
    • Singapore has replaced Mauritius as the top source of foreign direct investment (FDI) into India during the first half of the current fiscal
    • During April-September 2015, India has attracted $6.69 billion (Rs 43,096 crore) FDI from Singapore while from Mauritius
    • Foreign investment from Singapore has more than doubled from $2.41 billion in the year-ago period.
    • Singapore accounts for 15 per cent of the total FDI India received during April 2000 and September 2015.
  5. Railway Minister Flags Off First Double-Decker Goa-Mumbai Shatabdi Train
    • Railway Minister Suresh Prabhu on Sunday flagged off the inaugural service of the Goa-Mumbai double-decker air-conditioned Shatabdi train
    • The train was flagged off from Panaji via video conference by Mr Prabhu, along with Goa Chief Minister Laxmikant Parsekar and union Minister of State for AYUSH Shripad Naik.
    • The fully air-conditioned double-decker train was the first of its kind in the country and would help in boosting tourism.
  6. Canada sends first consignment of uranium to India
    • Canada has sent the first uranium consignment of 250 tonnes to India for its nuclear power reactors, over two years after the civil nuclear deal signed between the two countries came into force.
    • In April, Cameco signed a uranium supply contract with India after the nuclear cooperation agreement between Canada and India came into force in September 2013.
    • According to the Canadian government, the contract to supply 7.1 million pounds of uranium concentrate (about 2,730 tonnes uranium) to India’s Department of Atomic Energy was worth around Canadian Dollars 350 million ($262 million).
    • India currently has 21 power reactors in operation, with another six under construction and scheduled to start up over the next four years. The country plans to increase its nuclear generating capacity from the current 5800 MWe to 27,500 MWe by 2032.
