  1. Sarangi maestro Ustad Sabri Khan passes away
    • Renowned sarangi maestro Sabri Khan, who was honoured with the Padma Bhushan. He was 88.
    • In appreciation of his contribution to Indian classical music, Ustad Sabri Khan had received numerous honours and awards, including the Sahitya Kala Parishad Award, UP Sangeet Natak Academy Award, National Sangeet Natak Academy Award and the prestigious Padma Shree (1992) and Padma Bhushan awards (2006)
  2. Violinist L. Subramaniam to be honoured with ITC Sangeet Samman
    • Acclaimed Indian violinist L. Subramaniam will be honoured with the Sangeet Samman at the ITC Sangeet Sammelan 2015
    • The Padma Bhushan and Sangeet Natak Akademi awardee is the only musician who has performed and recorded South Indian and Western classical music

  4. Pilot, actor Thakur Anoop Singh wins gold at World Bodybuilding Championships
    • At the recently held seventh WBPF World Bodybuilding and Physique Championships in Bangkok, Anoop won the gold medal for India in the ‘physique fitness’ category.
  5. India launches initiative to boost higher education
    • India has launched the Global Initiative of Academic Networks (GIAN) scheme to boost the quality of the country’s higher education through international collaboration.
    • GIAN aims at bringing high quality academicians to participate in delivering courses in Indian institutions,
    • They are among 201 courses approved to be conducted under GIAN so far from among 495 courses proposed by various higher education institutes in India.
    • IIT Kharagpur is the nodal institution and national coordinator for this flagship programme.
  6. RBI keeps repo rate unchanged
    • Cautious ahead of the US Fed meeting, RBI kept its monetary policy steady on Tuesday amid lingering concerns over inflation, after having already cut the repo rate by a sharper 50 basis points at its last meet
    • The repo rate at which the Reserve Bank lends to the system will continue at 6.75 per cent.
    • The cash reserve ratio (CRR) or the amount of deposits banks park with RBI has also been unchanged at 4 per cent.
    •  GDP to grow at 7.4 per cent in 2015-16; mild downside bias
    • Retail inflation at 6 per cent by January, 5 per cent by March 2017
  7. Jharkhand to be declared drought-hit
    • The Jharkhand government on Tuesday said it had decided to declare the entire state as drought affected and would ask the central government for relief.
    • The state government would invite a central team to assess the situation and provide relief
  8. IMF approves China’s yuan as elite reserve currency
    • The International Monetary Fund welcomed China’s yuan into its elite reserve currency basket, recognizing the ascendance of the Asian power in the global economy.
    • The yuan, also known as the renminbi, will join the US dollar, euro, Japanese yen and British pound next year in the basket of currencies the IMF uses as an international reserve asset
