  1. NYK Auto to set up Ro-Ro terminal at Pipavav port
    • NYK Auto Logistics (India), a part of automotive ocean transportation and logistics major NYK Group of Tokyo, has entered into an agreement with Gujarat Pipavav Port Ltd. (APM Terminals Pipavav) to set up a dedicated Roll-on/Roll-off (Ro-Ro) automobile yard at Pipavav port in Gujarat.
    • Gujarat Pipavav Port has sub-leased 85,000 sq. meters of land for 10 years inside its premises to NYK Auto to develop a dedicated common user integrated Ro-Ro terminal.
  2. Buddhist sculptures, Kushan-era coins found at Pakistan site
    • Archaeologists have discovered Buddhist sculptures and coins dating back to the 2nd to 5th centuries during ongoing excavation at the site of an ancient Buddhist Stupa in northwest Pakistan.
    • During excavation, precious coins of Kushan period were also unearthed around the Stupa.
  3. Aviva Life Insurance appoints Trevor Bull as CEO for India ops
    • Aviva Life Insurance today has appointed Trevor Bull as the Chief Executive Officer and Managing Director for its operations in India.
    • Bull, who will take charge from January, is replacing T R Ramachandran, who led Aviva India since October 2008.

  4. Noted Hindi poet Nand Chaturvedi dies
    • Noted Hindi poet and a litterateur Nand Chaturvedi died at the age of 91.
    • Chaturvedi was a socialist. He was born in 1923 in Jhalawar. He had done his Master of Arts in Hindi from Rajasthan University. He retired as Professor of Hindi from Vidya Bhawan Rural Institute.
    • Some of his popular works include, ‘Yeh Samai Mamuli Nahin’, ‘Shabd Sansar ki Yayavari – a collection of essays, ‘Imandar Dunya Ke Liye’ among others.
    • He was given Bihari Puraskar of K K Birla Foundation in for his poem ‘Yeh Samai mamuli nahin’.
    • He also received Prasaran Sanmaan by Prasar Bharati.
  5. Ankita wins maiden ITF singles title
    • India’s Ankita Raina overwhelmed British teenager Katy Dunne in straight sets in a one-sided final to lift her maiden $25,000 ITF singles title at Pune.
  6. Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella pledges support to Digital India initiative

    • Microsoft’s chief Satya Nadella today pledged support to Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s Digital India initiative.
    • Nadella also met Finance Minister Arun Jaitley and Telecom Minister Ravi Shankar Prasad and discussed modernisation and security of the government’s digital infrastructure, among other issues.
