  1. Harvard University Names Two Indians for Prestigious Radcliffe Fellowship
    • Two Indians from Indian Institute of Science, and University of Delhi have been named for Harvard University’s prestigious Radcliffe fellowship.
    • Shivani Agarwal from Indian Institute of Science and Maharaja Pandit from University of Delhi are among 50 scholars, scientists, and artists who will begin their one-year fellowships along with 48 at the Radcliffe Institute in September 2015.
  2. V Shanmuganathan sworn in as Meghalaya governor
    • Senior BJP leader V Shanmuganathan was today sworn-in as the Governor of Meghalaya at the Raj Bhavan.
    • Chief Justice of the Meghalaya High Court Uma Nath Singh administered the oath of office to Shanmuganathan at a solemn ceremony.
    • Meghalaya was without a permanent governor for over four months.
    • Keshari Nath Tripathi, the West Bengal governor, had been taking the charge since the former incumbent K K Paul was removed from the post in January this year.

  3. Anti-submarine warfare ship launched in Kolkata
    • The fourth and last anti-submarine warfare ship being made for the Indian Navy was launched, adding a feather to the cap of domestic manufacturing for naval forces.
    • Kavaratti, the corvette which is 90 per cent indigenous, was launched at a glittering ceremony.
    • The four ships of Project-28 built by GRSE have been designed indigenously by the Directorate of Naval Design, New Delhi.
  4. Szlo Krasznahorkai wins 2015 Man International Booker prize
    • The 2015 Man International Booker prize was awarded to the Hungarian writer Laszlo Krasznahorkai at a ceremony at the V&A in London on May 20.
    • The literary prize, worth £ 60,000 is awarded to a living author of any nationality who has published fiction either in English or in English translation.
    • Former winner of the Man Booker International Prize include the late Nigerian writer Chinua Achebe, the American Philip Roth, and the Canadian writer Alice Munro who went on to win the Nobel Prize for literature in 2013.

  5. Tathagata Roy to take charge as Tripura Governor
    • Veteran BJP leader from West Bengal Tathagata Roy will be sworn in as the Governor of Tripura.
    • Padmanabha Balkrishna Acharya, the Nagaland Governor who had been discharging additional duty for Tripura, was given a farewell by the State government.
  6. Meghalaya achieves 100% financial inclusion in Jan Dhan Yojana
    • Meghalaya has achieved 100 percent success in implementing the Pradhan Mantri Jan Dhan Yojna.
    • All households in the state have been successfully covered under the scheme. More than 5.53 lakh households have been covered with 1.55 lakh new bank accounts.
    • Over 1.8 lakh accounts have been opened in rural areas, while in urban area the figure is over 47,000.
  7. HDFC Bank launches medical benefits prepaid card
    • HDFC Bank has launched ‘HDFC Bank Apollo Medical Benefits Card’.
    • The bank has partnered with Apollo Hospitals for this prepaid product, which allows corporates to easily disburse medical allowance to their employees, saving time and cost.
    • Corporates can load the specified allowance onto the card each month, which can be used by employees for medical expenditure at pan-India VISA/ MasterCard outlets.
    • The card offers free accidental death insurance of Rs. 3 lakh, accident hospitalization insurance of Rs. 30,000, discount and offer at Apollo Network—Apollo Hospitals, Apollo Pharmacies, Apollo Clinics & Apollo White Dental—across the country.
  8. Delhi Government to Launch ‘Pay and Play Scheme’ to Promote Sports
    • To promote sports among people of all age groups, Delhi government has decided to launch “Pay & Play Scheme” at the designated stadiums or sports complexes where they can play the game available there after paying a nominal fee of Rs 100.
    • Apart from this, it has also been decided that academies or clubs or individuals will have access to government schools for sports promotion.
    • The scheme would begin from July 1 in the morning session from 6 AM to 9.30 AM.
