  1. Union Government announces the awardees for the Rajiv Gandhi Khel Ratna award and Arjuna Award for the year 2015
    • The Union Government has announced the awardees for the Rajiv Gandhi Khel Ratna award and Arjuna Award for the year 2015.

  2. Delhi government launches new taxi scheme ‘City Taxi’ for economical connectivity
    • To provide last mile economical connectivity to Delhiites, the AAP government today announced a new scheme ‘City Taxi’ under which permits will be issued to 600 cc vehicles which will charge Rs 10 per km
    • As per the new scheme, the taxis will come with a panic and hooter button as a safety feature
    • Licenses will be given to individuals, groups as well as the taxi aggregators.
    • Small size taxi between 600 CC to 749 CC will have minimum flag down rate of Rs 25 for first two kilometres, which is same in the auto rickshaws. After two kilometres, passengers will have to pay Rs. 10 per kilometer
  3. Adani inks port pact with Kerala
    • The Adani Group on Monday signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with the state government in Congress-ruled Kerala to build and operate the Vizhinjam International Seaport
    • Adani Group has chosen Santosh Kumar Mahapatra, a former IAS officer who was instrumental in building the challenging Dhamra port in Orissa, to be the CEO for the Vizhinjam project.
  4. ICICI Bank launches India’s first robotic locker facility ‘Smart Vault’
    • ICICI Bank has launched the ‘Smart Vault’, a fully automated state-of-the-art locker available 24×7, including weekends and post banking hours.
    • The ‘Smart Vault’ uses robotic technology to access the lockers from the safe vault and enables customers to conveniently access their lockers at any time of their preference
    • Customers can access the lockers in total privacy without any intervention of the branch staff.
    • Bank customers can use their biometric identification, debit card and personal identification number to access the vault. They will have to enter the details again at the kiosk inside the vault to access the locker. Once the details are entered, the robotic arm of the locker will automatically fetch the customer’s locker from the vault and place it in front of the customer.
  5. Reserve Bank of India suspends licences of Religare Finance, 6 Other NBFCs
    • The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) suspended licences of seven non-banking finance companies, including Religare Finance, which the company said is a dormant entity and would not affect its business.
    • The seven companies include Religare Finance, Eden Trade & Commerce, Artisans Micro Finance, Nott Investments, RCS Parivar Finance, Swetasree Finance, Dewra Stocks & Securities
    • There are around 12,000 NBFCs in the system. RBI has the power to cancel licence if the companies do not fulfil various norms including minimum net owned funds.
  6. Sachin Tendulkar to be Maharashtra’s tiger ambassador
    • Cricket legend Sachin Tendulkar on Monday agreed to become Maharashtra’s tiger ambassador.
    • On July 29, World Tiger Day, Mungatiwar wrote to actor Amitabh Bachchan and Tendulkar, requesting them to be part of tiger conservation project.
    • Earlier in the month, Big B accepted the request from the government and met the minister to discuss details of his role and involvement in the project.
