  1. Pakistan Taliban: Peshawar school attacked; leaves 141 dead
    • Militants from the Pakistani Taliban have attacked a school in Peshawar, killing 141 people, 132 of them children.
    • A Taliban spokesman told BBC Urdu that the school, which is run by the army, had been targeted in response to army operations.
  2. Yes Bank chief awarded ‘Business Innovator Award
    • Rana Kapoor, CEO of Yes Bsnk, has been awarded with the ‘Business Innovator Award’ by the Asian Business Leadership Forum (ABLF).

  4. Vistara gets licence to fly
    • Tata-Singapore Airlines joint venture airline Vistara granted flying permit by aviation regulator DGCA, almost nine months after it applied for the licence.
    • The new full-service carrier would “shortly” announce its flight schedules and open ticket bookings.
  5. Viswanathan Anand beats Michael Adams to win London Chess Classic
    • Viswanathan Anand won his maiden London Classic title after defeating British Grandmaster Michael Adams.
  6. Dineshwar Sharma is new Intelligence Bureau director
    • The Union government on Saturday appointed Dineshwar Sharma, special director in the Intelligence Bureau, as the agency’s new chief.
    • He will take charge on January 1, succeeding Syed Asif Ibrahim whose tenure ends on the last day of this year.
  7. Reliance MediaWorks sells Big Cinemas to Carnival Films
    • Carnival Films Pvt. Ltd, backed by a Kochi-based commodity trader, has agreed to acquire a 100% stake in multiplex operator Big Cinemas, a division of tycoon Anil Ambani’s Reliance MediaWorks Ltd, for around Rs.700 crore.
  8. HDFC Bank launches mobile branch in Varanasi
    • HDFC Bank launched mobile banking initiative to offer round-the-clock banking facility.
    • “Part of the bank’s digital banking offering… ‘Bank Aap Ki Muththi Mein’ is technology agnostic and runs on all mobile devices popular technology platforms support,” said Nitin Chugh, Head-Digital Banking, HDFC Bank.
    • ‘Bank Aap Ki Muththi Mein’ works on both smartphones as well as the basic phones that support Internet browsing.
  9. IRCTC tops 2014 Google search in India
    • The Indian Railways’ official website, IRCTC, was most searched in Google by people in India in 2014.
    • The search engine company Google has released the list of most searched and trending words.
    • E-commerce website Flipkart, PSU lender SBI Online, e-tailer Snapdeal and PNR status were other most searched words.
    • The most trending topic of 2014 in India was Election 2014, followed by FIFA 2014, iPhone 6, GATE 2015 and Narendra Modi.
  10. Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe won comfortable re-election in a snap poll he had billed as a referendum on his economic policies.
